Handshake Domains

A guide for acquiring and using Handshake domain names.

Handshake is a decentralized naming system created for a more free and secure web. You can use Handshake domains to host your website just like traditional domain names.

Handshake coins

Handshake utilizes it's own coin called $HNS to place bids in auctions and manage names onchain.

Coins are only needed to register and manage TLDs on the blockchain. To register SLDs on Tinysites or other domain registrars, the coin is not required.

Example: coins are needed to own lyla/ but not for lyla.biography/.

Registering a name

To register domains on Tinysites, look at the Step by step guide.

Handshake also allows emojis such as 👍👎.

How to Resolve

To visit websites hosted on Handshake domains, you'll need to use a browser that supports them or a Handshake resolver.

Current browsers with support include MASQ, Carbon, and Aloha.

You can additionally use Fingertip for Chromium/Firefox based browsers and HNS DoH on desktop and mobile devices.

Gateways such as hns.to, hns.ws, and rsvr.xyz are also available in browsers without support, but are very insecure.
